fears & secrets
FEARS:
- LOSING HIS FAMILY
- NOT BEING ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING
- GENERALLY, HE’S JUST AFRAID OF BEING LOSER IN LIFE AND LEFT ALONE
- HIS MOTHER’S MENTAL ILLNESS
- HOW HE’S ACTUALLY AN ANXIOUS MESS ON THE INSIDE
personality
- EXTREMELY INDEPENDENT- HE HATES DEPENDING ON OTHERS FOR HELP, ALTHOUGH HE ACTUALLY COULD USE A LOT OF EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ON THE INSIDE
- TOUGH- JOEL HAS A STEEL-HARD EXTERIOR WHICH IS HARD FOR PEOPLE TO BREAK THROUGH, GIVING HIM A MYSTERIOUS AURA WHICH STRANGELY ENOUGH IGNITES A LOT OF INTEREST IN PEOPLE
- FIERCELY LOYAL- THOSE FEW WHO SUCCEED IN CRACKING PAST THIS TOUGH EXTERIOR WILL FIND A PERSON WHO ACTUALLY CARES DEEPLY FOR HIS FRIENDS AND WILL GO TO GREAT EXTENTS TO MAKE SURE NO HARM WILL COME UPON THEM.
- MISCHIEVOUS- AGAIN, THIS SIDE CAN ONLY BE SEEN BY THOSE WHO KNOW HIM WELL ENOUGH. HE CAN HAVE A VERY GOOD SENSE OF HUMOUR IF HE WANTS, BUT IT’S BAD LUCK TO THOSE ON THE RECEIVING END
- RESPONSIBLE- ANYONE WHO KNOWS JOEL WELL ENOUGH WILL KNOW THAT HE TAKES GREAT PRIDE IN ANY TASK HE’S GIVEN, AND HE’LL GIVE IT HIS BEST TO MAKE SURE IT’S DONE WELL
- QUIET- JOEL ISN’T SHY, BUT HE WOULD RATHER ONLY SPEAK WHEN HE NEEDS TO
- THE FAMILY MAN- HE’S FAMILY ORIENTATED AND VERY PROTECTIVE OF HIS FAMILY, ESPECIALLY HIS YOUNGER SISTER
- INTELLECTUALLY INCLINED- JOEL’S NOT JUST ALL BRAWN BUT NO BRAINS, IN FACT, HE ACTUALLY HAS THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS, EXCELLING IN SOCIAL SCIENCES AS WELL
- AWKWARD- HE IS A DOOF IN HANDLING RELATIONSHIPS WITH MEMBERS OF THE OPPOSITE SEX
- SWEETHEART- DOESN’T LOOK MUCH LIKE IT, BUT JOEL CAN ACTUALLY BE VERY CARING AND AFFECTIONATE TO WHOEVER HE LOVES
ONCE THEY GET PAST THE AWKWARD STAGE, THAT IS

history
- Born in Detroit to Ryan and Jodie Holmes, the second child after his older sister, Anabelle
- Had a pretty happy childhood as a toddler, since his family’s income made him a rather privileged child
- Joel was very clingy as a toddler; he would often stick to his older sister or parents a lot, and would cry a lot when he was left alone. This led to his parent’s decision to homeschool him since he wasn’t exactly the most sociable kid in town
- Fell off a bike when he was five, leaving him with a scar on the back of his head
- Once he broke away from the clingy stage at around six years of age, Joel began to feel very lonely at home and often begged his parents to let him go to a local school
- Parents enrolled him in a local elementary soon after. But Joel began his first year in school quite shakily, since he somehow began to become pretty disruptive during lessons
- Introduced to Water Polo by his parents at age 8, as a measure by his teacher to curb his hyperactivity
- Joel started to show promise and talent in this area, to his coach’s delight
- When he was twelve, his younger sister, Isabelle was born. Joel instantly became very protective of her, and it was from Isabelle that he gained his heightened sense of commitment from. Joel was also scouted by a coach in the very same year, and he was placed in a competitive team.
- Took part in his first national competition when he was thirteen, his team earning a Gold medal in the Under 16 category. However, this was the toughest period in his life too, since his father had also just died due to an accident while isolating toxins in his lab
- Joel’s mother couldn’t handle the blow from her husband’s sudden death and she broke down mentally, leaving her unable to care for her children. Anabelle acted as Joel and Isabelle’s mother during this time, juggling both her studies and part time jobs
- Social workers begin to visit Joel’s home from time to time, inquiring about their economical status and often discussing about whether they should send the children away to a home, seeing their mother’s condition. This leaves Joel fearful of whether his family would be separated and his aversion towards help from others.
- When Joel was fourteen, Anabelle decided that they should shift to their father’s old apartment in California, so that their mother could seek better psychiatric treatment. It was also partially so that they could avoid the social workers for a while.
- In California, Joel was spotted by a water polo coach in Brentwood, who believed that he had the potential to compete internationally and offered him a scholarship to Brentwood. Accepted in Brentwood, Joel’s life began to slowly pick up, since his sister was free from the burden of paying for his school fees.
- As of now, he’s in his Senior year in Brentwood and he’s doing pretty well, already earning himself a reputation as a well-established international Water Polo player.
