personality
To put it simply, he's rough around the edges. he is entirely headstrong and he refuses to seek out sympathy openly. he doesn't let his disability get the better of him, and he refuses to be seen as this helpless charity case. He's built himself up his own personal wall, a defense mechanism, if you will; where he will speak before thinking things through if he feels threatened or insecure. He's more of an act first, think later kind of guy and he has not shown any signs of stopping. He's not intentionally mean. He won't go out of his way to hurt your feelings or ruin your day, but he has been known to act irrationally and he does have a bit of a temper. He can act callously, but none of it should be taken to heart.
Beneath all of it though, he really is quite normal. His main want in life is to be loved. He wants to be accepted for the things he can do, rather than be judged for what he can't do. being blind has taught him a lot more than he'd care to realize. he's a lot more observant than he would ever care to let on to. He's fallen to hiding the sweetheart side of him, keeping the romantic buried beneath a multitude of defensive layers. he still harbors a fair amount of strife over his accident, regardless of how long ago it was. He's adopted a notion of sarcasm to cope with everything he's been dealing with, but don't let that fool or deter you, he's cliche in the sense that underneath, he's that typical little lost boy.

history
- born to julian and laura black, thirteen minutes after his twin brother garrison, in omaha nebraska; two years after the birth of their older brother.
- they were the first and only set of twins in the family, from the start they were given a bit more attention.
- they started out like regular children. gabriel was curious and inquisitive and always getting into things, he and garrison were always found together.
- when he was five, he began piano lessons.
- by the time he was seven, his parents had grown even more busy than they had been before, and gabriel was left in the guardianship of the family's nanny.
- he had been involved in sports from a young age. when he was eight, he started little league baseball.
- baseball soon shifted into little league football, a sport he started at age ten.
- he moved up in both baseball and football, eventually he was able to travel for tournaments.
- by the time he turned thirteen, his piano lessons had progressed a fair amount and he was participating in local concerts and competitions. It was nothing big or serious, but it gave him something to focus on.
- he started at the local high school when he turned fourteen.
- he tried out for the football team as soon as he possibly could.
- he became an increasingly social teenager, alongside his twin brother, he always tried to be involved in something.
- around this time, his older brother began getting in trouble. he jumped in with the wrong crowd and he was starting to make poor decisions.
- when he was fifteen, he, garrison, their older brother, and their uncle had gone to a college football game. gabriel opted to ride home with their older brother, while garrison went with their uncle. halfway through the drive, his brother lost control of the vehicle and side checked the highway's middle barrier. the car spun, and upon impact, the glass shattered, predominantly damaging gabriel's face and head.
- he spent about two months in the hospital with his older brother; two months taken to heal properly, but while the scars on his face faded significantly, it quickly became clear that the damage done to his eyes was too far beyond repair. he was blind.
- by the time he was brought home, it was clear that he had changed. he was no longer outgoing and lively, he had become callous and sarcastic, putting up one wall after the next to keep people out.
- his father moved the headquarters to his company to Los Angeles, and the family packed up and relocated.
- Gabriel, despite his disability, resumed playing the piano, and he was awarded a partial music scholarship to brentwood academy for his sophomore year.
